    We have an outstanding opportunity to join the New Energy team at PowerNet in the exciting and rewarding role of Data Scientist based in modern Invercargill office.

    As the Data Scientist you will:
    • Be responsible for providing information to support data-driven decisions by stakeholders through use of data science techniques, statistical and computational analysis, algorithms, models, forecasts, tools and data.
    • Develop and present findings, reports, insights, and visual data summaries to stakeholders using tools such as PowerBI.
    • Share knowledge, mentor and guide team members on best practice for data analytics and communicating information through data visualisation.
    • Lead and promote a culture of data-driven decisions.
    Essential Qualification/s:
    • Have a relevant tertiary qualification in data science, applied statistics or mathematics, computer science, or equivalent.

    Experience/Knowledge/Skills:
    • A proven track record of solving complex problems and delivering business value using data science techniques, forecasting and visualisation.
    • High level of proficiency and demonstrated experience with languages, tools, and common libraries used for data science, statistical analysis, forecasting and machine learning (e.g. Python, R, Jupyter notebooks) and data visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI).
    • Proficiency in ETL and using query languages such as SQL.
    • Experience with developing and operationalising Machine Learning, algorithms and models.
    • Experience applying statistical methods, such as forecasting, distributions, hypothesis testing, regression.
    • Experience in researching and sourcing data from internal and external sources to support delivery of work and projects.
    • The ability to discover trends, patterns and stories told by data and present them using easy to understand terminology
    • A great communicator and team member who enjoys communicating and interacting with stakeholders at all levels.
    • Aptitude for continuous learning and improvement.
    • Experience working within the electricity industry would be an advantage but not essential.
